I have always been deeply interested in the way that other people work - what their processes are, how they streamline their workflow, what tools they use... You know, really cool and not-nerdy things. Since I've got such an interest in this info, I thought I would go ahead and share my favourite tools - just in case someone has the same obsession with process that I do. Enjoy!
Later
Yes, asking a marketer their favourite social scheduling tool is generally like asking for opinions on the death penalty (contentious, to say the least). Personally, I’ve tried them all, and my current flavour is Later. It’s a sexy platform, easy to use, and super affordable. Plus, it actually works (how great is it when your post just doesn’t go live!). As well as this, its Chrome extension makes it super easy to add images from the internet to your post library. The only downside is that you can’t use it to repost from Instagram - as a result, I use a tool called Downloadgram which downloads high-res Instagram images. I then rename these images with the username of the account I pulled from. If UGC is a large part of your content, I would recommend using Sked rather than Later - it’s a little more expensive, but the Chrome extension for Sked allows you to pull images direct from Instagram and add them to your drafts, with credit to the poster automatically added. So awesome.
Airmail
As basic as it might seem, a great email client can make or break the way you work. I’ve recently switched to using Airmail, and it’s been a little bit life changing. Having always managed my emails via Gmail in my browser, I had gotten a little bit used to a somewhat average email experience (sorry Gmail fans). Airmail is fast, free, intuitive, and super easy to set up. On top of this, it looks sleek, and is very flexible in terms of its appearance (I’m talking to you, Apple aesthetics nerds). The only downside to this app that I've come across is that it doesn’t support Categories for Outlook accounts, which is a major bummer.
Canva I can feel all of the design nerds rolling their eyes from here, but for us plebeians without the full Adobe Creative Suite at our disposal, Canva has always, and will continue to knock it out of the ballpark. I use this website daily, for anything from resizing & cropping images, document cover pages, social content - pretty much everything. There’s not much more I can say on Canva, it’s just freaking great - plus it’s Australian!
And last but certainly not least...
answerthepublic.com Holy heck this tool is awesome! If you’re a marketer, you’re no stranger to racking your brains to ideate content topics that are engaging and useful to your audience. This is where answerthepublic.com comes in - a website which aggregates all of the most popular Google & Bing search strings on all topics. So as an example, the next time you’re thinking of a blog post topic for your construction company, you could simply enter ‘construction’ into answer the public, and receive a bunch of results that your content can ‘respond’ to - I received 840 results in total. Lifechanging!
